Lime printed cotton sharara suit set for Garba night

What to Wear to Garba and Navratri: 7 Outfit Ideas That Actually Work

Garba is a workout dressed up as a party. You'll be on your feet for hours, spinning in circles, usually in a packed hall or a school gym somewhere in New Jersey, Texas or California. So the best Navratri outfit isn't just pretty. It has to move with you, let your skin breathe, and survive a lot of twirling.

Here are seven looks that tick all three boxes.

1. A cotton sharara set

A sharara flares out from the knee, so every spin looks great. Cotton keeps you cool when the hall heats up. Our lime printed cotton sharara set is bright, light and easy to dance in, and the red cotton sharara set is a classic if you want something traditional.

2. An Anarkali for the big night

Anarkalis are made for Garba. The flared kurta swirls as you move, and you don't need much jewelry to make it look festive. Try the yellow cotton embroidered Anarkali set. Yellow is one of the traditional Navratri colors, and it photographs beautifully.

3. A fusion co-ord if you want something different

Not every night needs a full suit. A crop top with palazzo pants and a cape feels festive but modern, and it's far easier to move in than layers of fabric. The royal blue Indo-western crop top, palazzo and cape is a good example. See more in our Indo-western collection.

4. A printed kurta set for weeknights

If you're going to Garba three or four nights a week, you don't want a heavy outfit every time. A printed kurta set with palazzos looks put together and goes straight in the wash afterwards. Browse our suit sets for cotton and viscose options.

5. A sheer dupatta you can tie up

A long dupatta can get in the way when you dance. Choose a light, sheer one and tie it across your body or around your waist. You keep the look without tripping over it.

6. Matching outfits for your daughter

Kids love Garba, and they love dressing up even more. Our girls' sharara sets, like the yellow sharara kurta set and the purple brocade sharara set, are soft, comfortable and made for spinning. Shop the full kids' collection, and check the size guide first.

7. Comfortable footwear (seriously)

Most Garba venues ask you to dance barefoot or in flat juttis. Skip the heels. Your feet will thank you on night six.

A few quick tips

  • Pick breathable fabrics. Cotton, rayon and light georgette beat heavy silk on the dance floor.
  • Go for flare. Shararas, ghararas, Anarkalis and lehengas all look better when you spin.
  • Keep jewelry light. Oxidised earrings and a few bangles are plenty.
  • Order early. We ship from New Jersey within 1–2 business days, and Ground delivery takes 3–7 business days. Need it sooner? Choose Priority at checkout or pick up free from our Iselin store.
